Do’s and Don’ts of Your Massage Session

DO:

  • Arrive 5-10 mins before your scheduled appointment. This is a good time to complete new client intake forms if you have forgotten to do so before the day of your visit, use the restroom, find parking, or discuss your health concerns.

  • Undress to your comfort level. Leave undergarments on if you feel the need for security. However, safe draping practices are ALWAYS used and important for both client and therapist safety.

  • Be sure to position your body underneath the top sheet and blanket, NOT on top of the blanket. This usually applies to new clients who have not had a massage service before.

  • Communicate about your pressure level or if anything needs adjustment. I will check in with pressure or comfort, but it helps a lot to have a responsive and assertive client. Let me know how I could best help you!

DON’T:

  • Wear jewelry. Please take off necklaces, long earrings, and watches as these are difficult to work around. Be sure to keep jewelry contained in a safe place; therapist is not responsible for lost jewelry.

  • Arrive late and expect a full service. Your scheduled session is your time. A client may also have a scheduled appointment after you. If during bad weather, please give yourself extra time or reschedule.

  • Have your phone on ringing, take a call during your session, or using your phone while in session — this is disruptive and distracting. Vibrate or silent phones during session. If a call is important, please be sure to mention beforehand.

  • Expect personal favors, ask for inappropriate requests, or make offensive comments about the therapist. Massage is a therapeutic service; touch is NOT with sexual nature. Please be respectful of therapist’s professional boundaries.

  • Arrive to your session with a cold, flu, fever, or any other contagious symptoms. Please wait until you are fully well and recovered to reduce spreading of illness. This is respectful to other clients and therapist. Also, please do not arrive intoxicated with alcohol or other drugs.

Therapist has the right to refuse service to anyone who is contagious, not fully aware or responsive, disrespectful, or unprofessional, and will reschedule or cancel session if necessary.
